What We're Looking For: Michael Baker International is seeking a Project Accountant I to provide full life-cycle project accounting support to Project Managers. This role supports project financial management through project analysis, project setup, reporting, and revenue recognition activities. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and eager to develop their project accounting expertise while partnering with project teams to drive successful project outcomes. This position is remote, with a preference for candidates located in the Eastern or Central Time Zone. What You'll Do: • Perform project-level financial analysis to monitor project performance and provide insights on project health. • Identify potential financial or performance concerns and communicate findings to the Regional Project Accounting Manager. • Coordinate project setup activities to ensure compliance with contract requirements and Michael Baker approval policies. • Review contracts to understand project scope, billing requirements, project type, and invoicing terms. • Maintain project information within Oracle, including project maintenance, budget updates, and funding modifications. • Prepare monthly project reporting and provide financial commentary on project performance, including unbilled and unearned revenue analysis. • Participate in project performance reviews and provide financial support and recommendations. • Support Project Managers and Department Managers with proposal pricing, budget support, audits, financial reporting, and special projects. • Monitor accounts receivable and support Project Managers with collection efforts. • Assist in resolving invoicing issues and developing corrective action plans to improve payment timeliness. • Support project revenue recognition activities in accordance with company policies and procedures. What You Need to Succeed: • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. • 0-3 years of experience in accounting, finance, project accounting, or a similar role. • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel. • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across project teams. • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications • Master's degree in Accounting or Finance. • CPA, CMA, or other relevant professional certification. • Experience supporting internal or external audits. • Experience with Oracle Project Accounting modules or a comparable ERP system. • Experience supporting project-based organizations such as engineering, consulting, or professional services firms. Compensation: The approximate compensation range for this position is $65,000 - $72,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
